After almost six months of chronic ankle pain, Nicholas was finally relieved of the culprit - the OS Trigonum. This bone is common to 1/3 of the population and normally presents no issues. In some cases, the OS Trigonum does impinge upon the achiles tendon and causes an inflamation symptomatic with pain - this was Nicholas. In these cases, rest, immobilization, casting and steroids are used to relieve the pain. In the most severe (and atypical) cases, the bone needs to be surgically removed. Post removal, patients are expected to regain full motion and complete recovery.
I am thrilled the procedure went so well. The clarity and color of the "before and after" pictures taken inside Nick's ankle are amazing! Now..onto the healing process!!
