After getting a taste of waves in July, Eleni decided to further her skills.  This week, she is attending a surfing camp at 5th Street at the ocean front.  Hang Ten - Pickles!

Another Great Year

As it has become a summer tradition, we attended the Navy Seal Reunion again this year.  The day was great & I was able to get some awesome photos.

ODU Sail Camp

Nicholas is once again sailing in the ODU Summer Program.  Here, Nick is skippering the #10 boat - jockeying for a good position on the windward buoy.  He is having a great time - I'm loving the photo opportunities.

HarborFest / OpSail

OpSail drifted into Norfolk this week with the Parade of Sail.  Dozens of sailing vessels paraded through the Chesapeake Bay and set-up for festivities at Harborfest.  The Coast Guard Cutter Eagle led the parade into our port.

The longest ship at the harbor is from Spain.

Tall Ships

Op-Sail 2012 is upon us.  This year, several tall ships berthed at the Riverwalk Piers in Yorktown.  I was fortunate to catch these in the morning light.  

Photoshop Practice

The new Adobe Photoshop CS6 has some pretty cool 3D model features.  Just playing around, I learned to use some of them to make this cool logo for my fire photography photos.  

Remember The Reason

As Americans, we have the luxury of spending Memorial Day on the beach, with friends and family- only because of the sacrifices and hard work of the United States Military.  THANKS - to our armed services!

The Face of Fire

Ok, so you've seen weird stuff that looks like a face all over the internet - have you ever seen the face of fire?  Our department conducted burn training in the VDFP Mobile Live Fire Simulators last weekend.  This photo came from one of the instructors.  The photo has been cleaned up in photoshop - but what you are seeing is actually what came out of the camera!

Happy Mother's Day

Every year on Mother's Day, we head out to Henley Farms in Pungo to pick strawberries.  This year we also found some good lookin broccoli.

Rule For Strawberry Pickin:  One in the bucket, one down the hatch! Two in the bucket, one - two down the hatch.  When you have a tummy ache, stop!  you have enough strawberries.

Searching For Tasty Waves .....Dude!

Eleni and Nicholas got boogie boards for Christmas.  We finally got to use them!  Although there were no waves to tear through, Eleni had a good time paddling and posing.

One of the many icons of the Fire Department is the fire helmet.  We now use traditional styles - updated with the safety standards of today!

On a recent trip to the Botanical Gardens, Eleni wanted to compose some action shots.  Here, Eleni jumps from the fountain with a double thumbs up!  A smile too.

Playing With HDR

Below, you will see two examples of HDR photo editing.  In each case, three photos are taken: underexposed, correctly exposed and overexposed.  In special software, all three photos are merged to create one - which allow you to see balanced shadows and highlights.
